39% of people want an EV charger at home – now is the time to get one!
New research conducted by Hive suggests 39% of us want an EV charger at home, but there are common misconceptions putting people off. But now is the time to get one! Here’s why:
According to new research conducted by Hive, 39% of us want an EV charger before the 2035 ban of the sale of new petrol/diesel cars. This statistic makes it clear that people know EV chargers at home will become the norm, yet it seems there are some common perceptions which are putting people off.
The study by Hive suggested that currently 25% of people believe that the charging times for EV’s is too long. The reality is very different. Your Electric car’s quickest charging time will vary depending upon the charger being used, the car’s battery and the charging speed supported by the car. But if you do your research, you can dramatically reduce your car’s charging time. For example, a Kia Soul EV (2020-) takes 31 hours to charge with your usual domestic 3 pin plug, compared to only 9 hours and 35 minutes when charged using a 7kW wall box charger like this.
A common misconception is that EV’s can’t cover enough miles, in fact 27% of people think this! However it is clear that EV technology is advancing more and more every year. With each new car that is bought out the range they can do increases, with many EV’s now comfortably achieving over 300 miles on a single charge, including the Tesla Model 3, the Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV and the Cupra Born. The Mercedes EQS can even reach over 400 miles! For the average car user the range of these electric cars can comfortably reach the mileage required for your daily commute, errands, school run and much more.
There has been a lot of conversation recently regarding the soaring costs in energy, and the effects this has had on people who have recently purchased Electric Vehicles. However, even with the increase in electricity bills it is still far cheaper than the costs involved with running a petrol or diesel car. It is also important to remember that not only is charging your car at home incredibly convenient but it is also 55% cheaper than using public chargers, and 35% cheaper than running a petrol car.
Better still, a charger like this wall mounted 7kW smart charger, gives you greater control with the MONTA app, where you can schedule and track your usage all within one platform.
Finally, The National Association of Property Buyers (NAPB) say that an EV charging point at your home can add up to £5,000 to it’s value, better still, a study by Rivervale shows that 76% of homes with an EV charger have a higher value than the local average! So there really is no time like the present to invest in an EV charger!
