Meet The Team – Sophie
At VSL, our team is made up of hard-working, attentive employees with combined telecoms experience of over 200 years! We thought maybe you’d like to get to know us a bit more. So here is the next instalment of our ‘Meet The Team’ posts.
Name: Sophie
Job Title: Accounts Administrator
How long have you been with VSL?
I am 8 months through a year’s industry placement. I’m studying Accounting and Finance at the University of Portsmouth.
What’s been your best moment of your career at VSL?
Coming straight from Uni, I had to develop my business skills fast. I knew a lot of the theory, but business has proved so much more than that. Over the year, I have found confidence in speaking to customers about payments and found it satisfying when achieving a good resolution for both VSL and our customers.
What’s the best thing about working at VSL?
The people. Everyone has made me feel so welcome and there’s a great, friendly atmosphere in the office.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned working in the telecoms industry?
Being in accounts, I mainly see the billing side. Telecoms billing is incredibly complex with thousands of ever changing call rates and services. It is so important that we stay proactive, organised and have robust systems and procedures in place to allow us to manage the billing successfully.
What’s your favourite product feature?
It’s not so much of a product feature, but a service called WebAbillity that VSL offer to assist customers with their billing. It’s a portal where customers can view their invoices, add notes, run reports and analyse data. It’s so easy to use and I would like to see more customer benefiting from it, especially given it’s a free service.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I really like knitting. I’ve made 3 stuffed rabbit toys and my room is full of useless things that I’ve knitted!
What’s your favourite song?
This changes a lot as new songs come out all the time. It doesn’t take me long to get bored of a song.
What’s your favourite film?
Dumbo – a Disney classic! We had it on VHS when I was very young and I watched it so many times. I saw it again for the first time in years recently and it’s amazing how many of the songs I still knew all the words to!
If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why?
I’m only 21 now, but I’m enjoying this age. In the past year, I’ve finished my second year of uni, moved somewhere completely new and experienced working life – so it’s been very exciting!
If you could eat one type of food or dessert every day and not suffer any consequences whatsoever, what would it be?
Sweet and Sour Chicken balls and rice from a Chinese takeaway. Yum!
What would be the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
Buy myself a big country house and a really nice car. I’d buy my Mum a Mini, my Dad a building plot so he can build a house from scratch like he’s always wanted and I’d take my sister on a skiing holiday.
